A great big finish for 2019!

It's finished!
Hallelujah!
It was only 6 years in the making...


It's hard to take pictures this time of year 
between the short days and lack of sunlight.


I love all the different background wools.


I'm so happy with it. 
I'll be putting it away for next winter - but it will be a nice surprise to pull it out all finished then.


I love the brushed flannel that I chose for the the backing and the brushed cotton binding with a subtle stripe.


And here is Mom's version that I shared last year. 
She finished hers in about a month rather than 6 years lol!


Leia had to bring her toy Lambchop over right away to see my finish.


When I asked if she could please move, she ran right over to her brother for a snuggle 


and a nap.

I'm glad I picked a smaller project to finish up for February. :)

Winter Wool Applique from Years Past


This polar vortex has been rough!
We were without internet, tv and our landline for almost 48 hours!
You don't realize how much you rely on them until you can't use them ;)

This is a sweet Maggie Bonanomi design from several years ago - 
part of the Maggie Club with Country Sampler.  


I think that this was also a Maggie Club kit with the Country Sampler


I smile when I pull them out each winter.


I love the graphics of this pillow.


I have to share the sweet snowman that my sister-in-law, Joy made.
Thank you for your continued prayers as Joy continues her chemo treatment.
She always says that crafting is the best therapy and I agree! 


Joy's daughter (and my niece), Dana, made this great snowflake sign!
I love it! You should see the fabulous Christmas tree that she made, but I packed it away before I took a picture - darn! You will definitely see it next Christmas.


I've been working away on "Snowy Days" by Heart to Hand.
My #stitchfrommystash project for January.


I finished this block on my surprise *cold* day of from work.
Wind chills were at -55!


Now I am stitching my blocks together.
I know that tomorrow is February 1st, but I am so close that I want to finish this one up.
I have picked my February #stitchfrommystash projects, but they will have to wait for another day...

Stitch from my Stash - the beginning


On New Year's Day, I spent part of my day picking my two projects for #stitchfrommystash
I had such a hard time choosing, that I selected three lol! First up:

"Snow Day"
by Prairie Schooler 
from Book #177 January

I have been wanting to stitch this one since January 2016!
I started stitching Prairie Schooler designs in the mid-1980's
and they have been one of my favorite designers ever since.
If I was on a desert island and could only bring charts from one designer - this would be it :)
Sadly, I can't even remember the last time I stitched a Prairie Schooler?! 
So this will be the month!

this is the bonus project that I kitted up :)
I've seen so many finishes of this series lately that I am finally itching to start!
I will only be doing these two charts in the series and want them to be for winter rather than Christmas. 


My wool project for January will be:

"Snowy Days"

Believe it or not this kit was purchased back in 2013!
And I have not worked on it since January 2016!

I think that I need to finish it this month!

Here is where I left off three years ago:


I sure hope that I can get it done and enjoy it yet this winter...


I've made a little progress on "Little Red Barn" already this week...


So many of you have asked for pics of the pups.
Leia was thrilled with the new toy that they received for Christmas!
A stuffed log with three stuffed squirrels inside that can be pulled out through holes in the log.
She wouldn't sit still for a picture ;) 


Peanut wasn't quite as thrilled.
Although he did steal a squirrel once Leia had pulled it out lol.


Peanut's favorite activity is snuggling with his sister.


Even when snuggling, Leia usually has a toy in her mouth. 


She just can't let go!


Peanut just doesn't get it :)

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. Wow!!! Can you believe how quickly Mom finished this lovely quilt? 
I started this many years ago, but still haven't finished mine.
I guess I don't have the same focus as Mom :)


I have to share some close ups


Mom and I decided to tweak it a bit so that it would be solely "winter" and not "Christmasy"
so that we can leave it out all winter.
Well, Mom can.
I need a few more years to finish mine lol!

Pennies from Heaven ~ Volume 11

 
Last week, my sister and I headed down to our parents for a quick trip.
Yes, Mom has been at it again - quickly finishing some major projects!
 
(Please excuse the photos this time. It was storming out and some were taken at night, so the photography is not good, but let me tell you that the creations are all stunning in person!)

I think that this is my favorite block :)
 
and yes, Mom completed not one but two quilts!!!

Those tiny French knots are like seed beads and really set off the blocks.
 
 
Beautiful work.
After we chatted for a while, Mom thought it needed something more and pulled out some shell buttons.

 
The buttons aren't sewn on here, but I think it can now be declared perfect!
 
 
My sister also had a finish. She shared the blocks last time, but now they are all sewn together and complete. Her beautiful afghan is ready to use on the occasional chilly summer night ;)

 
I made slow progress on my hexies - creating the paths and slowly sewing my stars and flowers together,
 
 
I laid out all my completed pieces to figure out color placement.

 
I think I'll be working on paths for a while...
I haven't picked this up since our return.
Pam and I are headed back down in two and a half weeks, so maybe I can work on my hexies again then...
Who knows what Mom is working on next! LOL!

Winter stitching progress and a Winner

 
"Snowman Penny Rug" by Quilts by Cheri
is now complete.
 
 
A perfect home for it right under this little antique grater with candle.


 
I also completed the two blocks for "Snowy Days" by Heart to Hand.

 
I like the little bit of embroidery that sets it off.

 
And a bit on the stars as well. I think that I am now at the half way point.

 
I am so thrilled to have two models from the Primitive Quilts Winter 2015 issue living at my house!
In addition to my project, Lori Brechlin's "Threads in Time" now lives with me!!!
I am so excited - it is even more beautiful in person :)

It was so fun to hear what you like best about winter...
For most, it was the snow, as long as you were inside watching it by a fire/woodstove, drinking hot tea or hot chocolate and stitching/reading to your hearts content. The peacefulness of a new fallen snow was frequently mentioned as well as the beauty of red cardinals flitting so brightly against the white background. Of course there were a few who said the best part of winter is when it is over! Lol!
