Osage 2017 ~ Part 6

I bet you thought that this trip would never end lol!
It's taken me a lot longer to post than the actual trip!

But all too soon, the Bittersweet Sisters had to say goodbye and head home...

I had to make a few stops along the way to savor the scenery and take a few pictures.

While the leaves were just starting to change back then,
I am sure that they are in full glorious color now.

I also had to stop at a few antique shops along the way...

Isn't this graniteware amazing?!?!
I own a few pieces of the standard grey, white and blue,
but had no idea that there are other colors too!

This is a bad picture due to the glare, but the collection of butter stamps were too gorgeous not to share.

And the beautiful colors in this hooked rug perfectly depict springtime.

A few treasures that came home with me.

I only collect Gurley turkey candles, but this fella really caught my eye!
I just couldn't leave this dapper gent behind.

Some antique textiles.

Here is the inside of the hankie case shown in the picture above. It has seen better days, but I'm thinking of taking it gently apart and using it in some other manner.

A while back I declared that I was absolutely done collecting pyrography boxes,
but this is the smallest one that I have ever seen and who can resist roses?

This old thread box really made me smile. Be sure to enlarge the picture so that you can read all the words. I think that it will make you smile too!

And this was my favorite purchase of the trip!
I love old painted tin, although I'm not sure how old this piece is...
I though it might make a nice little box for sewing supplies.
And it opens in a very interesting manner.

When I saw the eagles, shields and stars, I was smitten!
I wonder if it might have originally been for
cigarettes and matches?
playing cards and poker chips?
What do you think?

Well, this finally takes me to the end of my trip posts,
and my traditional trip giveaway.
Here it is:

This giveaway is open to everyone. Simply make a comment on this post, or send me an email at pgagliardi9@hotmail.com with a subject of "Osage giveaway".
And tell me, what do you think that my painted tin box was used for?
I will pick a winner on Sunday, November 12th.
Good luck!

Northwoods, antiques and a little giveaway

We did some antiquing on our vacation this year.
( A rainy day and a really cold day helped.)

I loved this old barn and the treasures that it held.

Loved the collection of old bottles

and outboard motors

and license plates, too.

This old house sits at the top of a hill in the town of Spooner.
What a grand house it must have been back in the day...

Here are the treasures that came home with me.
(And yes, that is Peanut on the right.
He always needs to help when he sees that I am going to take a picture.)

I already have ideas for future creations with some of these items.

I loved the hexagon shaped sewing basket and the little treasures found inside - including an old hair pin, a Cracker Jack ring with a green heart shaped stone, a calendar reminder of Flag Day (the day we adopted our pups) with a USO flag pin and a Sunday School attendance pin.
Can you believe that the little sewing basket and its treasures was $1?!?
My mom, sister and I always used to say we can't pass up anything for a dollar!

It was such a lovely vacation and I like to share that in some small way with you.
So here is a little giveaway:

This giveaway is for a fat quarter of pretty butterfly fabric from the quilt show, a fat quarter of the Wisconsin shop hop fabric that I picked up at River's Edge, a little square of plaid wool from  Willow Wood Market, a spool and button hook picked up while antiquing and a little flower penny kit picked up at Woolkeeper - an adventure that I haven't shared yet ;)
Simply leave a comment on this post or send me an email to pgagliardi9@hotmail.com with "Giveaway" in the subject line. Since the most comments that I received from my vacation posts were about the pie in the first post, tell me... What is your favorite kind of pie???
I will pick a random winner on Wednesday, August 17th.

Winter stitching progress and a Winner

"Snowman Penny Rug" by Quilts by Cheri
is now complete.

A perfect home for it right under this little antique grater with candle.

I also completed the two blocks for "Snowy Days" by Heart to Hand.

I like the little bit of embroidery that sets it off.

And a bit on the stars as well. I think that I am now at the half way point.

I am so thrilled to have two models from the Primitive Quilts Winter 2015 issue living at my house!
In addition to my project, Lori Brechlin's "Threads in Time" now lives with me!!!
I am so excited - it is even more beautiful in person :)

And now for what you are waiting for...
Thank you ever so much for the 154 entries into my giveaway!
I can't thank you enough for all the kind words!!!
I wish that I had the time to acknowledge and respond to each of you.
It was so fun to hear what you like best about winter...
For most, it was the snow, as long as you were inside watching it by a fire/woodstove, drinking hot tea or hot chocolate and stitching/reading to your hearts content. The peacefulness of a new fallen snow was frequently mentioned as well as the beauty of red cardinals flitting so brightly against the white background. Of course there were a few who said the best part of winter is when it is over! Lol!
So the winner is...
#106 Lecia of Farmhouse Prims. You can follow Lecia's sweet blog here.

I will be hosting another giveaway in February of something that I created,
so be sure to stop back.
Thank you again for joining in the fun!

Woodland Walk Kit Giveaway

Inspired by the peaceful quiet of a winter snow, this mat reminds me of the joy and wonder ~ beautiful and unique snowflakes gently falling, crisp clean air, that lovely crunch of snow under your feet…

I was so thrilled to have my “Woodland Walk” design published in the current issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects.

To celebrate, I am having a giveaway of a wool kit using the same antique and hand-dyed wools (along with the brushed cotton backing) that I used in my original table mat. You will also receive a copy of Primitive Quilts and Projects with my pattern along with many other lovely patterns.

This giveaway is open to everyone! To enter, simply leave a comment on this post or send me an email at pgagliardi9@hotmail.com with "Kit Giveaway" in the subject line (to help me find it!) and tell me... What is you favorite part of winter?

I will randomly select a winner on Sunday, January 24th.

Since I had pulled out the twelve different wools included in this project, I also created a few very limited kits for sale. These limited edition kits are available for $30 plus shipping. If you need the magazine with your kit, I have copies available for $10.
To purchase the kit, just send me an email.
I can send a PayPal invoice or I also accept checks and money orders.
~*Please note: Only one kit remains available.*~

Thanks for joining in the fun and Good Luck!

Bittersweet Sisters Trip~The End & A Giveaway

While on our trip, we did a few joint projects.
Nicki led this project - decorating bittersweet orange mugs!
We each signed them all, noted the occasion, and decorated with a little bittersweet, of course.

What a great souvenir that will generate wonderful memories each and every time we use them!

Carla led this project bag tutorial.
Carla and Wendy completed theirs ~ just perfect!

I led a tutorial on pinch pockets using vintage fabrics from my stash.

Carla also created this sweet patriotic multimedia art for each of us along with a strawberry made of antique wool paisley ~ LOVE!

We were so lucky that Nicki enjoys cooking and cooked many of our meals. My intent was to photograph each wonderful meal, but, overcome by the delightful aromas, the idea of photographs were never even a thought in my head lol.

After a lovely Sri Lankan dinner, I remembered, but our plates were all empty :) so here are the pots.

Each and every dessert was also incredible, but again I only managed to photograph this caramel crunch ice cream cake after the fact. It was so delightful that I made it for my family the day I came home. We enjoyed it while watching the lunar eclipse and it was gone in a flash!

I also made a few stops on my way there and back...
Plaza Antiques in Dyersville, Iowa and

Willows in Dubuque, Iowa.

My purchases:

A shallow graniteware pan, an interesting old storage jar, a leather collar box dated 1879, a souvenir abalone antique dip pen in the original box, a tarnished silver serving tray from The Palmer House hotel in Chicago and a velvet pillow.

I loved all the colors of velvet and the embroidery between the squares.

Well, thank you for joining me on my journey!
Since you have been so kind with your comments, I thought I would host a little giveaway...

A little pinch pocket made of vintage fabric and lined with the wool of an antique army blanket.
I made this while having my little tutorial and thought someone might like it as a souvenir of "joining us" on our trip.

This giveaway is open to all. Simply leave a comment on this post or email me at pgagliardi9@hotmail.com with "Bittersweet Giveaway" in the subject line.
And tell me, what are you working on right now?
One random winner will be selected on Friday, October 23rd.

This, that and a little giveaway

If you would like to see a beautiful presentation of the "From Our Hands & Hearts ~ Creative", please click here. The photos are much more professional than mine!

A week after returning home from Ohio, I was off to Miami, FL.
Just a quick business trip.

I did find a few spare moments for stitching in the sun and listening to the surf.
I worked on "A Token of Spring" from the Little Sparrow PinKeep Club by Scattered Seed Samplers.

I thought it was definitely a beautiful sign when this mourning dove came to roost on the balcony while I stitched.

I had to return to Chicago quickly as I was meeting my husband and sons to attend an awesome concert
The Who!

I don't know which generation was more excited ~ the parents (us) or our kids!

After Joan Jett and the Blackhearts warmed us up, then The Who played for a solid 2 1/2 hours.

They played all the greatest hits and had the crowd on their feet all night.

It was so awesome to be sitting in the 6th row.
A wonderful vantage point.

In addition to Roger Daultry and Pete Townsend, our younger son gave a full run down of the band that included Simon Townsend (Pete's brother), Zak Starkey (Ringo Starr's son) and Pino Palladino, bassist extraordinaire.

Then Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam got on stage and rocked the crowd.

It was an awesome night to remember.

Next up:

This weekend I finished my Rebekah L. Smith class project!

I am so thrilled with how it turned out.

I love the backing fabric that Rebekah provided.

And I added a little ticking tag and wool heart.

And finally for the little giveaway.
It isn't much, but someone may like it...

A spool of vintage ribbon from the Brown Rabbit, some of the antique crochet trim, shirting and reversible wool found at the antique mall and an issue of Early American Life magazine. This is the last holiday issue. Once home I realized that I already had it. The wonderful thing about this issue is that it includes a pattern by Rebekah L. Smith!

Isn't this sewing book sweet!

As always, this little giveaway is open to everyone. Simply leave a comment on this post or send an email to me at pgagliardi9@hotmail.com with "Giveaway" in the subject line.
And tell me, what did you like best about the Ohio trip?

I will pick a random winner on Friday, June 5th.
