The Old Red Barn

We interrupt the catch up summer posts to bring you a finish...

The Old Red Barn
by Little House Needleworks

I finished stitching this just about a year ago.
I was inspired by the finish of Priscilla and Chelsea that I found here.

I switched mine up a bit - I switched out the pumpkins for apples and changed the colors to those shown.
Then I was stuck. I really loved the antique barnwood that Priscilla and Chelsea used and was searching for some red barn wood.

Earlier this month, my husband and I took a ride to Lake County Barnwood.
It is only 20 minutes from my Mother-in-law's home.

Even my husband was intrigued and wanted to go in...

I was thrilled with the barnwood that I found.

And my husband found this great tray.
They even include an informational postcard detailing where the wood came from and the barn's history!

And now for the unveiling...

I am thrilled with my finish!

It has been "Priscillafied"!

Thank you so much Priscilla and Chelsea for the inspiration!
Be sure to follow them on Floss Tube - The Real Housewives of Cross Stitch!

You would think that it is easy to take still life photos,
but this is what I encounter every time I try to take a picture...

My favorite little photo bomber - Peanut!

He  is so hard to resist and push away...

If only he could just back up a few inches... ;)

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

First finish of 2019!

My first finish for 2019!
"Little Red Barn" & "Grandpa's Pick-up"
by Little House Needleworks
part of the Farmhouse Christmas series

and appropriate as my Dad's last car was a red pick-up :)

My finish was inspired by Priscilla of The Real Housewives of Cross Stitch.
Thanks Priscilla!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw me post my progress.

I only changed one color - for a darker green.

And this is where it lives in our mudroom entryway.

I think it looks so nice with my Schneeman bird wreath.

My first completion from #stitchfrommystash!

I also finished a block for "Snowy Days" by Heart to Hand

And I am making good progress on my Prairie Schooler project too.
I hope to fully finish this next weekend.

We had a lot of snow last weekend and then went into the deep freeze with single digit temps and wind chills below zero. Leia is always cold once it gets below 60, but Peanut usually doesn't mind

Although he is beginning to burrow whenever he has the chance!

Stitch from my Stash - the beginning

On New Year's Day, I spent part of my day picking my two projects for #stitchfrommystash
I had such a hard time choosing, that I selected three lol! First up:

"Snow Day"
by Prairie Schooler
from Book #177 January

I have been wanting to stitch this one since January 2016!
I started stitching Prairie Schooler designs in the mid-1980's
and they have been one of my favorite designers ever since.
If I was on a desert island and could only bring charts from one designer - this would be it :)
Sadly, I can't even remember the last time I stitched a Prairie Schooler?!
So this will be the month!

Little Red Barn and Grandpa's Pick-up
from the Farmhouse Christmas series
by Little House Needleworks

this is the bonus project that I kitted up :)
I've seen so many finishes of this series lately that I am finally itching to start!
I will only be doing these two charts in the series and want them to be for winter rather than Christmas.

My wool project for January will be:

"Snowy Days"
by Heart to Hand

Believe it or not this kit was purchased back in 2013!
And I have not worked on it since January 2016!

I think that I need to finish it this month!

Here is where I left off three years ago:

I sure hope that I can get it done and enjoy it yet this winter...

I've made a little progress on "Little Red Barn" already this week...

So many of you have asked for pics of the pups.
Leia was thrilled with the new toy that they received for Christmas!
A stuffed log with three stuffed squirrels inside that can be pulled out through holes in the log.
She wouldn't sit still for a picture ;)

Peanut wasn't quite as thrilled.
Although he did steal a squirrel once Leia had pulled it out lol.

Peanut's favorite activity is snuggling with his sister.

Even when snuggling, Leia usually has a toy in her mouth.

She just can't let go!

Peanut just doesn't get it :)

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

Merry Christmas to One & All!

Merry Christmas everyone!
Thought I would write a quick post before I am off and running!
This is a favorite shelf of mine.
It greets us as we walk into our mudroom at the back door.

My little Christkindlmarket village that I have collected over the years.

And my German lead deer and a favorite cross stitch pillow.
Design by Primitive Stitchin by Shelley Auen.

I love to have lots of poinsettias around this time of year and this was a favorite.

So was this one. I guess I love variegated leaves and petals.

We took a quick trip to southern California last week and this was what I packed to bring with.

I haven't stitched much this month, but made a little progress.

I thought that I would end with a few of the trees that I saw in California.

So pretty and festive, no matter the climate!

This one just screamed California to me ;)

And this beauty was next to the outdoor ice rink.
Outdoor ice rink?!?! In southern California?!?! Oh my!

This was my favorite - at the gorgeous Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
But that is another story for another day...

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
~Luke 2:6-7

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas wherever you are in the world...

Christmas is Coming! Fast!

How can it be so close to Christmas already?!
I haven't done much stitching lately, so I thought that I would share some old finishes that I am enjoying this Christmas season.

I made all of our stockings in wool applique many years ago using patterns from Needl Love books.

The pennies are all from a old favorite plaid wool skirt of mine.

A favorite Pineberry Lane finish.

Mittens from a Rebekah L. Smith pattern made last year.

The snowflake cube is a Stacy Nash original.

I stitched these Pineberry Lane designs last year,
but they are still waiting to be fully finished.
I am hoping to do that between Christmas and New Year's.

A With Thy Needle and Thread design stitched this year, but not fully finished.

I did finish a little scissor fob.
My Christmas fob is MIA, so I created this one quick
from a part of a pattern by Little House Needleworks.

I also finished two small Christmas presents.
I forgot to photograph them before I wrapped them,
so I need to try to remember to take pictures after they are opened...

Two weeks ago, my husband was on a business trip out east.
I was so surprised to get this photo from him:

Rockefeller Center at Christmas?!?!
I was so jealous! But we did manage a quick trip out west this past weekend.
I'll share some pics from that after Christmas...

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
