Stitching with Mom & Pennies from Heaven ~ Volume 23


For the past several years, Mom and I have gotten together on Memorial Day weekend to create a pincushion together. This year it was:

“Wool Sampler”

Stitched on an old feedsack


You can still see faint signs of the feedsack - love that!


And I love how Mom put her labels in the center of each flower on the back.

And this amazing masterpiece:


“Fish Tales”

This piece is so amazingly realistic!


The details, colors and shading really make a statement!

Pennies from Heaven ~ Volume 22


Happy Mother’s Day!
What better way to celebrate than by sharing my Mom’s needlework!

Intended as a seed pocket will hanging, it also is great as a runner.


I love the coordinating fabric binding.

A Prairie Schooler Christmas


when I found this frame, I knew exactly what pattern that I wanted to stitch for it!


The Prairie Schooler #175 Santa's Night
Lucky for me, the ornament would fit perfectly,
so I stitched it right away.


The frame is battery operated and I just love the soft lights!


I think that this frame was made for this pattern!
I haven't packed it away yet and am going to have a hard time doing so...

Since I am sharing my latest Prairie Schooler Christmas finish, I thought it would be fun to share some vintage finishes that I photographed before packing away for another year...


I stitched this over one on black 22 count back in the day.
Still a favorite :)
It's framed as a shadow box with glass and hard to hide the glare of the glass.


This quilt was a gift from my Mom


she personalized it


and signed and dated it


I love the antique mother of pearl buttons in the corners.
Amazingly she made a second one for my sister that year!
My sister and I were both expecting that Christmas and our sons were born three weeks apart a few months later... Such wonderful memories!


Mom also made these for my sons one Christmas when they were little.
Joe loved trains and Alex loved fire trucks - so they were perfect!


Then a few years later Mom made my sister and I matching gifts again!

Aren't they amazing?!
I am so lucky to have such an amazing Mom!

Pennies from Heaven ~ Volume 21a



 "Koi Pond"

Just a quick post, but I realized when going through some pictures that I missed sharing some of Mom's finishes - and this one is my favorite!


Mom does such a fabulous job on her embroidery.


I so love the details on the fish!


And the variegated threads on the lily pads.


"Classic Cream"

The design was originally oriented vertically,
but Mom chose to make it horizontal for across the back of a sofa or across the foot of a bed. 
Great idea! 

Mom and I are off to a class with Rebekah L. Smith and a new to us quilt/wool shop!
I am sure that we will have much to share soon!

 And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
    and to walk humbly with your God.

Mom had so many finishes in the past year that we didn't have time to photograph them all.

The colors show brighter than reality here, but I wanted to show the beads that Mom is fond of using rather than french knots.

Mom started with the single pattern and then made a set to coordinate in different locations in her home. I think that she really out did herself with this amazing set!


The details are so lovely!


I think that this was a fabulous idea!!!
