Woodland Walk Kit Giveaway

Inspired by the peaceful quiet of a winter snow, this mat reminds me of the joy and wonder ~ beautiful and unique snowflakes gently falling, crisp clean air, that lovely crunch of snow under your feet…

I was so thrilled to have my “Woodland Walk” design published in the current issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects. 

To celebrate, I am having a giveaway of a wool kit using the same antique and hand-dyed wools (along with the brushed cotton backing) that I used in my original table mat. You will also receive a copy of Primitive Quilts and Projects with my pattern along with many other lovely patterns.

Pennies from Heaven ~ Volume 6 (should be Vol. 7!)

When I visited my parents last month, I was able to see Mom's latest finishes.

I'm sure that I shared this one before, but it is now officially finished.

And I can't stop looking at it and admiring it!

Maggie Bonanomi's "Settlers Pride" is such a stunning design!

When Mom saw the photos last time, she did a little minor perfecting before backing it. 

Can you believe that she did this entire project in 7 weeks?!

Once backed - she added this running stitch along the edge - love it!

in Primitive Quilts & Projects book "Wool Applique - Volume 2"

This piece is replacing the sunflower on the back of the rocking chair for Christmas.

I love the ticking candy canes! Perfect!

While I was there, Mom decided that she wanted to learn English Paper Piecing.

It's no fun to make just a single flower, so Mom and I sat down and made these: 

We each finished a little pincushion.

Of course Mom took to EPP like a fish to water.

We didn't start these until later in the evening and probably spent as much time laughing as we did stitching. We stayed up way too late, but had so much fun!

I wouldn't be surprised if my next visit I get to see some EPP projects 

by Mom in addition to wool applique ;)

Here's some perspective to see the size of our little pincushions.

I might just need to make a few more...

Thrilled to Share!

 

I am so thrilled to share that I have a project in the Winter 2015 issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine!

 

 

I can't tell you how much it means to me to be in the same issue as some of my all time favorite designers:

Rebekah L. Smith

and Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin

 

And when I visited Fat Quarters Quilt Shop, I discovered that Michelle Joyner, the owner of the shop designed the gorgeous quilt on the cover! How wonderful!

 

 

It was such fun to see the "behind the scenes process".

 

 

When photos started appearing from quilt market in Houston, it was such a pleasure to see my project was there :) You can see it in the upper left hand corner.

I may never get to Houston, but my project did :)

From Our Hands & Hearts ~ Part 4

The Mercantile opened and it was all I had hoped for and more!

My first stop was the booth of Rebekah L. Smith.

Of course we were so busy shopping that these pictures weren't taken until after we spent all our money. :)

Linda and I both purchased these lovely sewing books from Rebekah.

There is a large needle page on the left and a pocket and pincushion on the right.

We were giddy with excitement over our first purchases!

Of course that isn't all we went home with from Rebekah's booth.

Here are the treasures that came home with me:

I am so thrilled to have these originals by Rebekah!

Only one of these boxes still lives at my house. But they are all so lovely!

The coordinating fabrics for the sides are perfect!

I love birds and am just thrilled with my sewing book!

One purchase I thought about all Friday night and had to go back on Saturday and see if it was still there:

Lucky for me it was! 

I had such a hard time deciding, I had already bought so much, but I decided that it was meant to be and so it came home with me. 

This hanging sewing pocket is made with all antique materials. The coverlet is absolutely gorgeous and the main background is a quilt backing.

The back of the hanging pocket is the quilt front.

I am so glad that I did buy it. It is now hanging from a cabinet in my dining room.

I was also thrilled to meet Gretchen Smith from my favorite magazine, Primitive Quilts and Projects!

It was so fun to see all the models from the summer issue in person.

And Gretchen is such a kind and kindred soul ~ a pleasure to visit with!

I bet you can guess which project from that issue that I would like to stitch first :)

Yes, Rebekah has a pattern in the Summer issue! 

The next booth that I would like to share is that of Christine M. Miller.

Like mother, like daughter!

Christine is Rebekah's mom! You can certainly tell they are related with equally wonderful God-given talents!

Christine displayed both lovely handmade items and wonderful sewing and textile related antiques.

Such tough decisions!

And believe me, I am horrible at making decisions!

I wanted to move her entire booth right into my house!

Each and every item was stunning!

Finally I had to make some decisions...

(And Linda can tell you how painful that was lol!)

This linsey-woolsey pincushion made of antique materials and hand-painted pins came home with me.

This beautiful antique sewing box.

(Shown with two strawberries made in Stacy's class. I realized that my scraps were big enough for another tiny berry :)

It now sits on the table next to my sewing chair.

Well, I think that 20 pictures is long enough for one post lol!

And I only showed you three booths!

Early Signs of Autumn...

I love sunflowers! The perfect late summer/early autumn flower.

Following the sun with their flower faces and the perfect golden hue reminding us of the autumn colors yet to come...

This was a rughooking design, but since I don't hook, I translated it to wool applique instead.

I love all the early signs of autumn that you shared!

Cooler, crisper mornings and evenings

animals beginning to store up their winter food

goldenrod and chrysanthemums

apple and pear picking

fallen hickory nuts and acorns

football season

cicadas

V's of Canadian geese flying north

Back to school

Joy & August Giveaway

Joy!

 The weather has cooled and we don't need the air conditioning on!

The windows and doors have been thrown open!

I've been able to spend some time in the garden

and the Autumn issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects has arrived!



Even more joy, when I realized that my finish of Jo Ann Mulaly's Scattered Hearts and my little note are published inside!

I thought a copy of this wonderful magazine would be lovely for my August giveaway, but was thinking that a lot of people that read my blog probably already have a copy... so I thought I would add a few other things as well...



Magazine size pieces of my five favorite vintage wool blankets and pieces from three of my cutter quilts, a newish tomato pincushion and strawberry emery and a pair of sweet stork scissors that I picked up in my travels.

Now you'll have some crafting supplies as well as the magazine :)
