Tomorrow's Heirlooms 2018 retreat ~ Part 1

Last weekend I attended the 2018 Summer Retreat put on by Tomorrow's Heirlooms.
The teachers this year were Tanya Brockmeyer of The Scarlett House
and Beth Twist of Heartstring Samplery! I was so excited!
I know both of them, but had never taken a class with either of them.

On Friday night there was a meet and greet and trunk show at the hotel where the event was taking place.

Oh my goodness gracious! Both designers are so prolific!

And to see so many finished models in one place was breathtaking!

So many of the designs I was familiar with, but they are always even prettier in person!

I love the red chairs in this sampler and it was just darling displayed on a little red chair.

I would love to have one of each ;)

There are never enough hours to stitch!

All of the above are designs by The Scarlett House and here is Tanya herself
who drove all the way from Arizona with her husband and their four sweet dogs.

And I didn't forget to take pictures of Beth's wonderful designs.

Oh my! Where to even start?!

This sampler was lovely on a larger count and I believe it may have been stitched with wool thread.

I was so thrilled that Beth's daughter let her mom bring "Prairie Life Sampler".

So lovely in person! I was a fan of the "Little House on the Prairie" books and tv show growing up and I just recently read "Prairie Fires". This pattern just had to come home with me!
Thanks so much to Beth's daughter for sharing!

Are you a fan of Beth's "Festive Little Fobs" series?

Oh my heavens! How wonderful to see so many of them in person.

Each one is sweeter than the next

And the variety of finishes are so neat.

It may have looked like I was all alone, but it was crowded!
So much fun to bump into old friends and new. (Literally lol!)

Beth had created a freebie chart for our event.
How appropriate!

and the back (or is it the front?) is lovely too!

Tanya also created a freebie chart for us.

Look at it stitched on a teeny tiny count of linen.

Tomorrow's Heirlooms had fabric, thread packs and trim for both charts all set to go.
You know I had to get it all!

I have so much more to share from this retreat,
but I am heading to the northwoods for my annual trip to unplug and recharge.
I thought this is a good post to keep up while I am gone.
So much eye candy to entertain you :)
I'll share the rest when I return...

The Lord will keep you from all evil;
    he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.

Feathered Nest Pin Book

Another finish!
"Feathered Nest Pin Book"

I'm so happy with this finish!
I stitched it right away, but took a year to finally "finish" it.

The back is as pretty as the front.

I decided to add some wool pages to my needle book.

Now why did I wait so long to finish it? ;)

I changed the colors of the bird as I love robins!

Usefulness

"Usefulness"
strawberry threadkeeper by Notforgotten Farm

I started stitching this as soon as it was released in 2015.
So happy to complete it this year during strawberry season.

That sweet little strawberry caught my eye immediately!
Such a unique little addition!

I used the same long stitches to finish off the seams.

Strawberry season started wonderfully this year - lots of rain and cool sunny days brought back thick plants with tons of flowers.
But sudden steady high temps, brought it all quickly to a halt and we only harvested about 5 pounds.

Still enough for one batch of Strawberry Lush - the dessert of choice for the men here on Winding Vine.

Therefore God also highly exalted him

and gave him the name that is above every name,

so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Mrs. Maguire's Garden

"Mrs. Maguire's Garden"
design by Pineberry Lane

I just realized that I forgot to share this finish.
It is a slightly abbreviated version of the original design.

I didn't have any trim that matched nicely,

so I added a bit of stitching to the seams.

I think that my husband and I visited Mrs. Maguire's garden on the 4th of July.

Don't you expect her to walk out any moment carrying her watering can?

I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
    your name and your word.

How I spent my 4th of July

Happy 4th of July!

It was a hot and humid one today on Winding Vine.
But we got up early and went for a hike, ran a few errands, and did a bit of gardening.

It's hard when the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday.
Just one day off in the middle of the week.
So I tried to ignore chores and have some fun.

"Red Geraniums"
By Maggie Bonanomi
from her book "Buttonwood Farm"

I actually stitched this last 4th of July and just put it together
so I could hang it on my front door today.

The background is pieced from an old feedsack (can you see the faded printing?) and old ticking.

I used my favorite Rustic Moire Wool Threads.

I think they add a nice touch.

This is the second time that I made this piece.

The first time I made it was many years ago in a class with Maggie.
It looks so different in a totally different colorway.

This afternoon I sat outside for a bit, until I started to melt, and worked on a little
patriotic English Paper Piecing.

It is a kit by Primitive Gatherings called "Honor Flag".

Have you ever bought a pattern and then had to drop everything to start it immediately?
Well I did just that!

This sweet couple were calling to me! :)

Our town has their fireworks on the 3rd of July
which is a good thing so I can get to bed early tonight for work tomorrow :)

They were a delight as always.

I was exhausted last night and really didn't want to go.

But we have a tradition with friends of dinner out and then fireworks.

I was so glad that I went!
How could I even consider missing 4th of July fireworks?!

We always enjoy them so.
I hope that you are enjoying a safe and happy 4th of July!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
