The morning after the Chicago blizzard, we opened our window shades to this view. Luckily we found that we had one window that was clear. Only to see that it was still storming... Throughout the blizzard we lost our t.v., phones and internet, but luckily although our lights flickered the power stayed on.
Finally the snow stopped.
When we tryed to get out to assess the damage, we realized that all our doors were stuck shut from large snow drifts. It took time and patience, but we were able to get our back door open. My youngest son toughed the trek to the garage for the shovels and shoveled his way back.
Where's your coat Orion???
My youngest son also tackled the climb up the mountain (front steps) to clear off the front door.
He rewarded himself with a dramatic jump!
Here is our side entrance still snowed in...
And when we opened our garage door, we were greeted by another wall of snow.

Here's Orion properly bundled up in his new winter coat.
Doesn't he look dashing?

I couldn't sleep at all the night of the storm between the thunder, the windows rattling, and all the funny sounds a house makes in gale force winds.
So instead I listened to news radio and stories of people trapped in their cars for hours and hours on end. (How blessed I was to be in my warm bed!) And I thought about a new wool project that I wanted to start on right away. I sketched it out in my head. And after all the shoveling and picture taking was done, I selected my wool colors. Hopefully I'll finish it and share it this weekend.

Thank you to all my wonderful TDIPT customers for your tremendous response.
I hope to deliver your packages to the post office on Saturday morning.
Can I fill those packages up with a little snow too?

the wind is blowing,
But I can weather the storm.
What do I care how much it may storm?
I've got my love to keep me warm."

Patti, Libertyville was hit too! Den was on a business trip to Toronto, flew to Detroit and worked from a motel because he could not get a flight home! He just arrived! Thom was home so we both shoveled out, first I had to hit the back yard for the dogs! They were a hoot! Otis are lab bounding thru the drifts, Win our puppy right behind and Sherman barking! Today I helped finish some of our eldery neighbors. I have to say it , I LOVE SNOW!!!! Even with RA I was out there the longest! Whats on the list for next year? A snow blower. Your boys looked like they were having a ball! Snow, the new nintendo game! Deb
ReplyDeleteSame thing here with the weather but insted of snow we got ice..we lost our power from 8 p m Tues to 9:30 Wed morning and I stayed in bed until about 11 A M so the house would warm up a little. We should be able to get out of here tomorrow and run some errands before we get another blast. We are near Shelbyville,IL if you know where that is but we are 10 miles south of Shelbyville and very rural.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to global warming ??? I don't want to hear anyone in the midwest complain this summer if it gets hot. I will be happy to get down to 1 layer of clothes or maybe even shorts :)
Take care and stay warm :)
Oh my gosh! That is some deep snow!!! I shouldn't complain about the 6" we had a couple of days ago... from what I see you have... it could be much worse. Please stay safe & warm!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your new inspiration. You do such lovely works always. :)
That is a LOT of snow! We didn't get nearly so much in the Detroit area. Love the doggie coat and the run made for them. My dh does the same thing for our little dogs - looks like a race track in the back yard. Great pics! Stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm glad you are safe and warm...what a storm! We had lot's of ice here (we are between Cin. and Dayton)but nothing like what you had! Your little doggie looks adorable in his little coat! Can't wait to see what you are creating!
ReplyDeleteYikes! The snow of my childhood dreams... but now? I'd rather keep it under 2 feet, thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteGlad your power stayed on, and can't wait to see your new creation!
Wow now that is what I call a real snow blizzard, it has been on our news in the UK, I do feel for you, hope it will not last too long. Keep warm:)) Orion doesn't seem bothered at all in his warm coat:))
ReplyDeleteOrion looks absolutely smashing in his new coat.
ReplyDeleteBe warm and safe. Spring is coming!
Patti! I have NEVER seen so much snow! The 5 inches we got today in Mesquite TX was more than I have seen here in probably 10 years! I can't imagine being in a blizzard! Glad you are safe and warm! Can't wait to see what your next creation will be!
ReplyDeleteWhat a little love Orion is! He is SOOO handsome in his coat!! I just want to squeeze him and his short little legs!
Brightest Blessings, Lola
