"Sweet Summer Time" design by Jan Goos of Goos Nest
I started this piece on Memorial Day at home, worked on it during our first storm when we were without power for 2 days and finished it in Hayward Wisconsin on the 4th of July. I attached an antique ticking tag to the back ~ writing out my memories on it. When I bring it out in years to come I love reading these tags and remembering what was going on while creating it.
I just adore this piece! So perfectly designed by Jan. You can see her shop here and her blog here. The pussy willows took more time than I thought they would but were well worth the effort! I changed the blue flowers just a bit - they remind me of the cornflowers that I love so that grow on the side of the road this time of year. I know that they are weeds, but they always make me smile.
"Old Glory" design by Maggie Bonanomi
I started this piece on the 8 hour drive home from Hayward and continued working on it during the second storm when we were without power for four days. It's now framed and hanging in my dining room.
I've also started some velvet vegetable pincushions for my TDIPT offerings on August 1st, but I'm not quite ready to share those yet!
Love your wool pieces, really beautifully done and the wools you used are gorgeous.

Just love looking at your wool projects! Was the red, white and blue Maggie one an old one from her club? I LOVE the blue and the daisy, can't wait to see the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteTotally unrelated to your lovely finished pieces and weather... just had to pop in to tell you that I dreamed I got to visit Chicago last night, and spent most of my time there trying to meet up with you. Apparently you were too busy to take me out on a water taxi, and didn't call me back until I was ready to board my departing flight. So sad! :)
ReplyDeleteHey, Patti! Both finishes are gorgeous and the one you started looks great, so far!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been stitching much at all - just too hot and energy zapped. I have the Mystery Sampler waiting to be worked on a bit; I just have to get motivated!
Lovely finishes! I am working away on Totin Hare by La D Da, one of my january challenge pieces!
ReplyDeleteWhat are we working on you asked....I'm working on perusing blogs and admiring everyone else's work! Yours is enviable as always.
ReplyDeleteYour works are always a treasure. I love that you write memory tags on your pieces. How special is that?! :)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteLove your pieces! Leaving tomorrow for our trip to Spring Green - can hardly wait. I'm working on a "penny rug" design to fit into a wonderful vintage frame with a display area of 18 x 22. I don't have a pattern but I've finally figured out the size to make the pennies so they will fit in the frame but no idea what "design" to make. I don't have a patter that I like & even went to the library to look at some pics of vintage rugs but couldn't find any. So maybe the "girls" at SG will have an idea or a pattern I like. I have to "publish" this as Anonymous as I don't have a "blogger account". Jean E from Brown Deer.
I love all of your wool pieces! It seems to be too hot everywhere this summer!
ReplyDeleteYour projects are wonderful and that tag idea is a really good one. We've had very hot weather as well and a bit of a break the last few days. More humidity on the way today tho. I will try and remember these days when it's -30 below, lol. I'm working on a stitchery BOM that I'm doing in brown work. My brother used to live in Hayward years ago. Nice town

Love your wool pieces!Your work is awesome.Hugs,Jen
ReplyDelete'morning: I've been reading your blog and am curious for I've never heard the term:'Antique Ticking Tag' that you apply to the back of your work. It's really just too derned hot to do much of anything here in the Tx. Hill Country, to go to 104 today! Been months and months of this unrelenting heat. Phyllis
