Of course I spent time stitching on our vacation.
I enjoy stitching in the golf cart while my husband golfs :)
Lakeside Cabin design by Jan Mott of Crane Designs
Kitted by Gail Grassel Of River's Edge Antiques and Quilt Loft
A start and a finish on vacation!
A perfect souvenir!
I bought the kit last year on vacation and this year I made it - a two year souvenir lol.
I think it really captures the feeling of the North Woods.
And reminds me of an all-time favorite picture that I took near the cabin:
This photo brings back so many wonderful memories from over the years
and is even more special because...
it appeared in truncated form on the inside cover of FOLK magazine in the March/April 2012 issue.
I walked out of River's Edge Antiques and Quilt Loft with a rather large bag this year.
Unfortunately I'm not sharing most of it as it is for gifts and/or things to make as gifts ;)
But here are the items that I bought just for me.
We attended a Pow Wow this year of the Lac Courte Oreilles
Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
It was a beautiful and meaningful evening.
The Lake Superior Chippewa Indians are known for their beadwork and their work with birch bark.
I was delighted to purchase this pair of raw abalone earrings and a dreamcatcher key ring,
which I think might make a great scissor fob.
While the fishing wasn't great this year, I did catch a 17 inch small mouth bass that made my day. My oldest son was happy to know that it was successfully released after we took a quick photo.
I did bring a few things home from our antiquing.
The most intriguing was this treen container.
I've collected several over the years and was happy to add it to my collection:
Here is my collection including my newest addition.
The intriguing part came when I opened it up. All the other containers were empty when I bought them, but not this one...
It all looks original and is a perfect fit for:
Madame Louie hair crimpers complete with instructions dated 1902!
I wonder if all of these containers once contained hair products?
Well thanks for letting me share my vacation.
Now it's your turn for some fun:
A giveaway for a few little things from my July travels:
from Country Sampler - a magnet/needleminder and
from River's Edge - the Lakeside Cabin pattern (I have two!),
a fat quarter of French General fabric and a ball of Valdani.
Simply leave a comment on this post or send an email to me at pgagliardi9@hotmail.com with "Vacation Giveaway" in the subject line and tell me - Where did you spend your summer vacation?
I will pick a winner on Monday, August 28th. Good luck!
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Being unemployed this year to date, creative vacation ensued. I went to my studio on several dates - beach day I used blues and tans for water and sand. Colorado wishes meant browns, rusts and fall/wood colors. New Mexico wishes meant turquoise and antique button work. Made it work this year. Missed going away - maybe next summer. In the meantime I have lots of gifts ready!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great finish and reminder of your vacation.
ReplyDeleteLove to watch the Indians dance, my niece is Menominee Indian, and dances each year.
We have yet to take our "Summer vacation".
We are going to Door County and camping with my nephew and his wife in September, can't wait!
I would love to enter your drawing.
Thanks!
Marilyn

I spent my summer in my sewing room! But some friends and I did take a little trip to Wheaton Woolens (I read about your visit there on your blog), and had a great time! The shop is wonderful, but their house is just amazing! It was a great day!
ReplyDeleteJust a couple weeks ago hubby and I managed to go to Wisconsin for 3 days. Just long enough to visit a couple breweries and a quilt shop. Of course, I had to had some cheese curds, too.
ReplyDeleteMy vacation,so far, has been spent at home around the pool. We are retired, so vacations are anytime!! My best to you and your mom....
ReplyDeleteMy vacation was earlier in the summer, Camping in the Smokies. We camp early summer and fall. This has been our go to vacation for over 30 years.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post! And thank you for the great giveaway! 2017 has been a year for family -- we traveled for my mother's funeral in January; my niece's wedding in May; and, coming up, my nephew's wedding in October. Some years are like this -- and this one has been precious to my soul. (We do plan on camping on Labor Day Weekend -- I always take a project to do and that wool applique with the canoes would be perfect!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous giveaway! Love that fabric! So far, we took a trip from Illinois to Connecticut to Cape Cod, back to CT, then to NJ, back to Illinois, then back to Ohio to drop off MIL who came back to IL with us from NJ. It was all to visit family, which was wonderful (except Cape Cod, which has been a favorite of mine since age 10), so it was nice, but rather exhausting. In a few weeks we are looking forward to our usual late summer trip to Door County Wisconsin, and I cannot wait!! Relaxation at last.

What's with koi seo??? He left comments on 5 or 6 of my blog posts. ARGH!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a busy summer. 10 days in California, 2 days in Tipp City and 3 days in Chicago. All in just over 30 days. I need to stay home and be productive :)
Treen is one of my favorite collectibles. I have been collecting for years and have many pieces. How neat that a crimper was in yours. I have one that has ink in it and another that held a perfume bottle. Many held small tools. Such a fun collection.
Hugs :)

ReplyDeleteHi Patti.
In June, my husband and I spent 2 weeks in our van camper in No. CA and Oregon. In a few weeks, we will be visiting South America - the Amazon, Machu Pichu and the Galapagos. Checking off several items on our "bucket list".
Thanks for the chance to win,
Charlotte
What a wonderful place to vacation, and that river looks wonderful to paddle on.
ReplyDeleteWe went to Maine this year, spent a week on an island in the fog, lol. Not as much paddling as I was hoping for, but we still had a wonderful time. Love the table mat, perfect for the camper.

Sorry to say....no vaca this summer. Spent the last few months recuperating from knee replacement. However, it gave me time to stitch and to keep up with blogs. I'm looking forward to a few days away in October when we celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in South Haven, MI-love that place. Enjoy the rest of your summer. Prayers continue for your mom.

Your vacation looks like fun. We're enjoying a week at the beach at Chincoteague VA. It's great fun with extended family and two little ones.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fantastic vacation. I spent mine with family, on Lake Memphremagog in Vermont, my daughter and grandsons with my husband and son-in-law all went fishing, and there was a lot of fishing to be had! I stayed back to sew, using the excuse someone needed to watch the 3 dogs! I had a gorgeous view of the lake and sewed to my heart's content? Needless to say this was a very pieceful vacation!!!

So it looks like you had lots and lots of great fun over the summer, I am most impressed with your small mouth they are the most fun to catch they usually put up such a fight. We're you fishing out of the kayak? My summer fun was mainly getting out fishing with my husband and when I'm not catching I am stitching in the boat so a moment is never lost. I also enjoyed a hook in where it's always fun to catch up with old friends and make some new ones and get lots of creative inspiration.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely if you to share some of your treasures I love the French General fabric I hand not seen this one before. Thanks for sharing all of your travels and stitching acomplisments it's a joy to read. Hope your mom is doing better.
We have a beach vacation at Destin every year, first week in June.My 2 daughters, grandchildren and myself. We have a great time, looks like you did too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a wonderful wrap up to your vacation. Nice bass! I have wonderful memories of fishing with my father when I was a child ... now that was what we now call quality time, sitting quietly together for hours. I was able to get away to visit a dear friend for a few days for my vacation. It was lovely.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and I always love seeing where others have been. I had staycations this summer and really enjoyed being home. Thank you for the giveaway. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteI live in Northern Mn...up north. It is wonderful in the summer but our winters can be a bit too long. I thank God daily for fiber arts and my computer so I'm never alone when working on a project. Nice small mouth. I'm glad you put it back. We put them back too for future generations to enjoy. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm retired, trips in the summer aren't really vacations. But we went east to NY, Boston and NH. Ended up in NYC visiting a son there. And just went down to Georgia to another son's. Went up to Tennessee to see the eclipse with four grandsons! I wool appliqued all the way east and south and back home (northern IL). Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your vacay pictures. So fun to see what others are doing. I am currently in Northern Ontario, not too far from Timmons, on vacation with my family. We like to fish as well and I caught a 23 inch pike. Not a huge one but plenty big for me! I too am working on a couple of wool projects while we wait out the rain. Love family time the most! Thank you for the give away, love all the items:^)
ReplyDeleteHubby and I are taking "summer vacation" in October. We'll be spending a week in the Colonial Williamsburg area. We have not visited the area before and are looking forward to it. May even be able to take in some fall color! Thanks for the chance to win the goodies!

ReplyDeletePatti- when you stitch your Maggie projects do you whip stitch them down like she does?
No vacation yet. Saving my time off work to go to Houston quilt show in the fall. Love your posts and projects. Thanks for sharing.
