I
know that many people jump right from Halloween to Christmas in their creating
and decorating, but I am a traditionalist. I like to celebrate each month for
its own gifts and besides, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! A fairly
stress-free holiday with one big meal shared with family and friends and a
focus on gratefulness and thanksgiving! What could be better?! And so this
month’s offerings are inspired by my favorite holiday.
All of this month’s offerings are based on a
single lovely design by Jane L. Way of Mousehole Lane. First is Thankful Thread
Board. This piece is both lovely to display and useful. I added amber mother of
pearl rings for holding threads on one side.
On the back I included an orange plaid wool pocket
for embroidery scissors (not included) and a brown ribbon tie to keep them safe
and secure. There is also a plaid wool needle and pin patch.
The front is complimented by a great pumpkin
vine calico and a canvas ribbon with wooden buttons. It has a base of thin mat
board, so that it is stiff and can be propped up on a shelf or table. It
measures approximately 5 inches by 7 1/2 inches (not including the rings) and
is completely handsewn.

I’ve continued making pinch pockets this month
as well – from the same design as the thread board. These pinch pockets are
perfect for a small spool of thread, a small pair of embroidery scissors, and
even a few other notions. Each measures approximately 4 inches across and 3
inches tall. Items are stored safely inside until you gently press the two
corners together to open. The pinch pocket is backed with the same pumpkin vine
calico as is featured on the thread board and is lined with the same brown
tweedy wool. As with all of my offerings, it is completely handsewn.
