March is more than half over and I forgot to show you my mantle...
Two of my antique lanterns atop a favorite antique teal green box
A favorite Maggie Bonanomi Country Sampler Club project complete with antique paper
Two Maggie Bonanomi topiaries with my favorite folk art box and a great little mercury glass votive holder
And a Stacy Nash Country Sampler Club project
When March rolls around, I often think of sheep - I think it is the old saying
"In like a lion and out like a lamb"
(let's hope that it holds true!)
The glare on the glass detracts from the beauty of a piece that I am so blessed to own
Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm created this wonderful paper cutting that she then painted with watercolors. The shading in the sunflowers is gorgeous.
Maggie Bonanomi daffodils made in a class years ago.
(Can you tell that I am a big fan ;)
Well, I have a question that I am hoping that some of you might be able to help me with...
Our oldest son has decided to change majors and universities.
And so, he and I are off on a whirlwind trip to another part of the country.
We will be visiting Portland, Oregon; Corvallis, Oregon; Denver, Colorado and Fort Collins, Colorado.
We won't have much time, but if you have a favorite place to eat, see or visit, I would love to hear!
( I might be able to squeeze in one quilt, wool, stitchery or antique store if it is really worth the trip ;)
Please do share!
I am trying not to think about this too much as these places are so very far from Chicago, but more than anything, I want my son to be happy :) We leave this weekend and it should be very interesting as I have never been to Oregon or Colorado.
When we get back, it will be time to take March down and decorate for April. Time sure does fly!
Stacy Nash original creations.
The treasure that lies within.
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Portland,Oregon recommendations:
ReplyDeleteThe Button Emporium and Ribbonry has lots of trims, ribbons (some vintage) and buttons. http://www.buttonemporium.com/contact_us.php
(Psst: You can zip into the Public Library across the street to use the restroom if needed ;-)
Cacao. Chocolate shop! Try the Everyday Hot Chocolate

Portland and Corvalis: rarely snows, lots of rain. Summer-like weather into October. Portland had a few inches of snow in February for about 5 days. Cute names the locals called this period were snowmageddon and snowpocalypse.
Hi Patti,
ReplyDeleteYour mantle is lovely! Love Maggie too!! In answer to your question, i lived in WA for 10 years and loved visiting Portland!! Lots to do there but a FAVORITE PLACE is POWELL'S BOOKSTORE!!! It is HUGE!! It covers a whole block!!!! Love their craft home decor section and prices are great!! To eat, go to RUSSELL ST. BBQ!! They have GREAT PULLED PORK SANDWICHES, and AMAZING FRIED CHOCOLATE PIES!! Also the best sweet tea!! As for shopping, try to visit MONTICELLO ANTIQUE MARKETPLACE! Hope that helps!
Enjoy your trip and know that wherever your son decides to land, you will have some wonderful places to explore!!
Safe Travels and warm hugs~

Enjoyed your March decorations!! And have fun on your trip west. You have some good recommendations for Portland so I hope you have a chance to visit one or more. :D
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty! Love all your pretty touches, here and there and even hidden inside the lid of your sweet box.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip - never been to that area so can't help but will look forward to hearing all about it.
Love the topiaries!!! And the graters are too cool....I'm gonna copy!! Acorn Threads is in Portland...a great cross stitch shop. Sounds like a fun trip....enjoy your son!
ReplyDeleteAcorns and Threads a cross stitch shop in Portland is very popular!
ReplyDeleteLove Lori's paper cutting and your Stacy Nash finishes.
If you like Mexican food I would recommend the blue corn enchiladas at Tortilla Marrisa's in Ft Collins, Colorado. Also in the town of Loveland, CO. (A few miles from Ft. Collins) is a wool hooking shop called the Wool Bssket. Ft. Collins is a great town. Enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I get for falling behind on blog reading... Your choice to visit the Oregon coast on what appears to be a perfect day was smart. Here's hoping there will be more Oregon visits in your future... :)
