A Prairie Schooler Year ~ March

 

My year of Prairie Schooler finishes from over the years continues...

I have several for March, but I think that this is my favorite!

I'm always so happy to see it each March 1st.

 

I softened it up a bit using one thread over two on 28 count linen and tea dying after I finished it.

 

And I added little "x's" to the seams.

 

This similar design I stitched a decade or two (or more) ago...

 

A favorite Easter piece with coordinating rick rack along the seam.

 

Another stitch from many years ago in my "over one" days when my eyesight was better.

 

Here you can get some perspective of the size.

 

This scissor fob was stitched over one on 22 count.

 

It's been fun when I pull out each month's decorations, to dig through and find my Prairie Schooler favorites from over the years... So many memories tied up in the stitching :)

Since I just visited Mom and Dad two weeks prior, I didn't think that she would have anything to share...

Hello sweet Peanut with your shaggy winter hairdo!

Those eyes make my heart melt every single time...

I'll wait until you move to take the rest of my photos :)

I LOVE Cee's vintage hand-dyed wools!!!

And her aged string and binding just set off the look - an instant antique (lookalike)!

Mom and I also prepped our mats from the January Maggie Club project from Country Sampler.

I think that Mom has hers done already, but mine hasn't come back out of the project bag yet...

we will have to share them at our next visit.

We think it will be fun to work on a club project together each time I visit.

Guess I better go back really soon!

Primitive Paradise ~ Spring 2016

 

This past weekend it was once again time for the wonderful primitive shows in Central Illinois.

Seven wonderful shows in the towns of Arcola, Arthur and Tuscola.

We used to run from show to show, but this time we attended just two and that was enough :)

 

I enjoy taking photos of the lovely vignettes, but find myself distracted by all the treasures...

So not many photos were taken.

 

This beautiful quilt caught my eye.

I'm always a sucker for wool and velvet.

And the stitching was just lovely.

 

 

So many wonderful treasures in every booth.

Oh how to choose?!

 

So pretty AND pussy willows - the icing on the cake :)

 

Joe Cardetti of Kracker Barrel Antiques ~ always one of my favorite booths!

His displays always take my breath away!

 

 Penny rugs and stone fruit... more of my favorites *sigh*

 

Jacque Bradford always has a fabulous booth!

The graphics of the wool pennies on an old feedsack was another favorite

- almost like modern art in its feel.



 

 I didn't want to leave this gorgeous monochromatic hooked rug. But it was not in my price range.

I wonder if I could try something similar in wool applique...

 

My purchases were all small, but treasures nonetheless...

 

 Sweet little treasures from the booth of Beth Pulsipher.

Such a pleasure to meet her in person after corresponding on Facebook.

Wish I had taken photos of her booth, but I was too busy trying to narrow down my purchases - I wanted it all! lol

 

 Wonderful old and worn fabrics and a neat grater from another favorite booth - Country Love Antiques.

 

 And I am so glad that I bought this sweet fellow.

A fun little bird atop an Amish puzzle ball pincushion.

I think that this one truly is Amish. The Amish believe that only God can make a perfect thing. So when they create a quilt, they will intentionally change the color or direction of one patch so that it is not "perfect". I love the one patch of brown in this pincushion.

 

The pincushion is worn and old in some places - just like I like it ;)

And I love how the ribbons form a "birdcage" when hanging!

 

 

The details of his tail feathers and wings, the funky poof atop his head and the wonderful faceted jet black glass button eyes *sigh*

So glad that I found him and that he came home with me.

 

My final funky purchase:

 

 An old wooden stool with an octagon top that has seen better days.

It was the bottom that tugged at my heart:

 

Oh the details!

Legs that look like leaves with wonderful carved veins and that great finial in the middle.

All painted a wonderful salmon ~ faded bittersweet color with hints of deep red beneath.



 

Look at the edges of the legs! Like perfect little fly stitches!

 

 

It appears that the original top cracked right across, so that they added a second board on top.

I think that it is calling for a little wool applique mat on top... What do you think?

 

Such a fun weekend that included a little crafting as well.

Stitch Club Finishes

 Recently we had our once a month stitch club and I was amazed at the finishes that were shared :)

We were at Aileen's house and the moment I walked in, I spied this fabulous jar filled with english paper piecing hexie flowers!

Aileen joined several swaps online and her flowers have been arriving from all over.

I loved looking through her jar and admiring the fun fabrics.

 They've arrived from all over the country and all over the world!

I had to share a few of my favorites...

 Our friend Cathy has been busy with her quilting.

I love the spool square above and look at this:

Isn't this strawberry square awesome?! 

It looks so happy :)

And do you spy the Easter runner at the top of the photo?

The fabric is chocolate bunnies and pastel peeps!

It's making me hungry ;)

 Cathy also made this sweet little Valentine quilt ~ such a fabulous fabric combination.

Here's the back so that you can see the sweet little heart quilting...

 And Jan totally outdid herself with this phenomenal masterpiece!

A wool applique crazy quilt purse!

Oh my stars! I think that I spent most of the afternoon mesmerized by its beauty and staring at every little detail!

This little bumblebee is so sweet. 

 And these teeny tiny flowers along a seam *sigh*

 more whimsical little flowers...

 And here is the back of Jan's purse.

 The embroidery on these flowers is absolute perfection!

 I love the variegated  thread flowers on the gray background.

 And this is on the inside under the flap - such a shame that it is hidden.

Jan should do a lot of shopping, just to open her beautiful purse ;)

Her embroidery stitches are so perfect!  

 I love each and every detail, except for the spider and spiderweb on the back.

This arachnophobic doesn't even like cute spiders. 

We didn't see Joan's show and tell until we were heading out the door...

She knit this incredible sweater! A wearable work of art!

The hood and the back were pretty incredible as well.

No finishes of mine to share... just a bit of stitching on the latest Stacy Nash club kit.
