Grand Olde Flag
"It's a Grand Olde Flag Pillow Cover"
design by Maggie Bonanomi
My favorite shop, Country Sampler in Spring Green, Wisconsin had a Grand Olde Flag Gathering in June. I wasn't able to attend due to the double graduations of both my sons, but I was absolutely thrilled to be able to get the kits. My finish is an abbreviated version of Maggie's design as I was in a hurry to complete it and put it out this summer :) I elected to use an old white wool blanket that I already had. I loved the cotton edging on the blanket and the way it "finished" the left side of the flag. I tweaked the blue star field as well.
Aren't the fabrics that Maggie picked absolutely fantastic?!
I just love this piece!
"Star Pin Keep"
design by Maggie Bonanomi
I also finished up her little pinkeep. I love the pieced green army blanket - just adds a bit of "makedo". I had the subtle striped wool and substituted it for solid cream. There are red x's around the edges that you can't really see. The little silk flag pin is so sweet.
I think these are my last patriotic finishes of the season - next I'm thinking sunflowers... although there is the Stacy Nash kit from the Gathering yet. *sigh* so many projects, so little time!
"Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us.
None can compare with you;
who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us.
None can compare with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare."

Patriotic Finishes & a Patriotic Winner
"Hooray for the Red, White & Blue"
Winding Vine Designs original
Thank you so much to the 47 people that entered my patriotic giveaway!
It was such fun to read all your favorite patriotic songs. I was singing them all in my head each day :)
The most popular song mentioned was God Bless America followed by the 1812 Overture, Grand Old Flag and the Star Spangled Banner.
Our winner this month, as determined by random.org is Robin from The Cranky Crow
Congrats Robin!
I'll get you package out to you shortly!
"Independence Day"
design by Falling Star Primitives
I shared this cross stitch piece on the 4th of July and have since finished it. You can find Falling Star Primitives designs here.
I have two more patriotic pieces in process now and then I am thinking there are a few sunflowers in my future...

Son of God and Son of man!
Glory and honor, praise adoration,
now and forevermore be thine."

Strawberries Status
"A Garden Visitor"
a Winding Vine Designs original
A few weeks ago I mentioned a few strawberry projects I was working on here.
I finished my little wool mat. This summer our strawberry crop was smaller than usual. Part of it was due to the unusually hot spring. And part, I discovered, was due to a little visitor that decided to make our garden his home...
This baby bunny enjoyed our strawberries, sugar snap pea plants, and various other tasty morsels.
I don't mind sharing, but am a little surprised at the size of his appetite!
So, our little visitor inspired my creation.
I also finished stitching some smalls from Heartstring Samplery's Strawberry Collection.
When I started, I had my finishing ideas all planned out in my head. But as I stitched some alternate plans started to form... decisions, decisions!
As soon as I decide and pull finishing fabrics and trims, I'll share some again...
There is still time to enter my patriotic giveaway. Be sure to see this post for more information.
"Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight
and all the twinkling starry host.
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heaven can boast."

A patriotic July giveaway
It's time for the monthly giveaway!
Of course it had to be patriotic :)
A little pillow of vintage ticking and a vintage pieced quilt top "field of blue". A little coordinating star pinkeep filled with crushed walnut shells, and a gently aged flag.
We attended the town fireworks display on the 3rd of July. The Community Orchestra accompanies the display. When they start playing John Philip Sousa's "Stars & Stripes Forever" my heart skips a beat! So tell me, what is your favorite patriotic song?
As always this giveaway is open to everyone, followers and non-followers, bloggers and readers. Simply leave a comment on this post or send an email to me at pgagliardi9@hotmail.com with "Patriotic Song" in the subject line.
I'll pick a winner next Friday night...
I hope to be back over the weekend with some finishes and near finishes.
Blessings, Patti

O beautiful for spacious skies...
"Independence Day"
design by Falling Star Primitives
"O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!"
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!"
~Katharine Lee Bates
I took a brief break from the "Strawberry Collection" to work on this.
I'll show a status picture on the strawberries soon...
Yesterday evening was spent celebrating with friends and watching our town's fireworks display. Today is a quiet day of "catch-up" around the house.
We'll have a barbeque dinner tonight.
Stop by later this week and I'll post the July giveaway...
Wishing you and yours a happy and safe 4th of July!
